57% of WP Sites Become Less Secure in December 2018

PHP 5.6 and 7.0, the scripting language that underlies 57.1% of all WordPress sites will stop receiving security updates in December 2018. No security patches will be issued for those versions of PHP after that date, making those sites less secure moving forward.
That could mean a loss of traffic and a ranking nightmare for WordPress websites still using those old versions of PHP in the event of a vulnerability.
Graph showing how many WordPress sites use various versions of PHPThis graph shows the percentage of sites using PHP 5.6 and 7.0. It is somewhat concerning that more than a third of WordPress sites use 5.6.

What is PHP?

PHP is a scripting language that enables the creation of websites. There are different versions. Each version represents an improvement from the previous version. As each version is created, software (like WordPress) are updated to be able to take advantage of the latest performance improvements.

When are Security Updates Ending?

  • Security updates for PHP 5.6 is ending on December 31, 2018.
  • Security updates and patches for PHP 7.0 are ending on December 3, 2018.
Image of a table showing the different dates at which security updates will no longer be provided for the various versions of PHPThis table shows when PHP 5.6 and 7.0 will no longer receive security updates.

How Many WordPress Sites are at Risk?

According to WordPress’ official published statistics, 57.1% of WordPress sites run these outdated versions of PHP.

Why is Security Support Ending?

Security support for each version is scheduled to last a limited amount of years until it reaches what’s known as End of Life (EOL). At this point there will be no more security improvements created for it, even if a vulnerability is discovered.
According to the official PHP website, this is what EOL means:
“A release that is no longer supported. Users of this release should upgrade as soon as possible, as they may be exposed to unpatched security vulnerabilities.”
All websites are required to upgrade to the latest version or risk becoming vulnerable to hacking events.

What if You Fail to Update PHP?

All websites that fail to upgrade to the latest version of PHP will be insecure and vulnerable to hacking events once versions 5.6 and 7.0 enter their End of Life (EOL) period. This means that even if security vulnerabilities are discovered, nobody will make a patch to fix the vulnerabilties in versions of PHP.
Additionally, many plugins, themes and WordPress itself will eventually stop working with these versions of PHP.
If you run a WordPress website, the most prudent action to take is to upgrade to the latest version of PHP.

How to Identify Which Version of PHP is in Use?

The easiest way to tell is to log into your hosting control panel and find a link to a section focused on PHP. There are online tools that can tell you but it’s best to log in directly to your control panel and check it yourself.
There are also plugins that can tell you which version you’re using. For example, the WordPress phpinfo() plugin is an easy to use plugin that can tell you which version of PHP your WordPress site is using. Once you know which version of PHP you’re site is running on, you can remove the plugin.

Alternatively you can call your hosting provider’s support and ask for help identifying which version your site is using and instructions for how to upgrade.

How to Upgrade PHP From 5.6/7.0 to Latest Version

Step 1 – Backup Your SiteIt is important to back up your WordPress site. The easiest way to do this is with the UpDraftPlus plugin.
Step 2 – Check Plugin Compatibility
Make sure all of your plugins have been updated to their latest version. Additionally, the update should have happened within the last few months to no longer than a year.
If the plugin has not been updated in a long time, visit the plugin’s authors web page and verify if the plugin is compatible with the latest version of PHP (PHP 7.2).
If the plugin is not compatible then switch to the most popular and recently updated plugin that does the same thing. You really should not be running any plugin that isn’t compatible with the latest version. Poorly maintained plugins can be security risks.
Step 3 – Upgrade PHP Version
Log in to your web hosting control panel, find the PHP section and upgrade the PHP version for your website. If this is to difficult then contact your web hosting support for help.

Make Security a Part of  Your SEO Process

Security issues are not commonly a part of SEO. SEO is largely concerned on improvements that will help ranking.
However, once a site is hacked and the search traffic disappears, security rapidly becomes an SEO nightmare. So why wait until your site is hacked to add security to your SEO toolkit? Add security to your SEO routine and avoid the crisis of losing traffic. SEO is as much about retaining traffic as it is about gaining it.

Anritsu BERTWave MP2110A

Welcome to a Biomedical Battery specialist of the Anritsu Battery

The BERTWave MP2110A with battery such as Anritsu MS2721A Battery, Anritsu MS2724B Battery, Anritsu MS2722C Battery, Anritsu MS2726C Battery, Anritsu MS2711E Battery, Anritsu MS2712E Battery, Anritsu MT8212E Battery, Anritsu MS2024A Battery, Anritsu MS2026A Battery, Anritsu MS2036A Battery, Anritsu MS2025B Battery, Anritsu MS2026B Battery is an all-in-one measuring instrument with built-in bit error rate tester (BERT) and sampling oscilloscope, supporting evaluations such as bit error rate (BER) measurements, Eye Mask tests, Eye pattern analyses, etc., of optical modules.
The BERT and sampling oscilloscope are required instruments for evaluating optical modules used by optical communications systems. Until now, evaluation of typical optical modules , such as QSFP28 and SFP28, has required a standalone BERT and sampling oscilloscope, but with an all-in-one built-in 4ch BERT and 2ch sampling oscilloscope, the BERTWave MP2110A eliminates the need for separate instruments, slashing both instrument capital costs and manufacturing costs.
Moreover, the BERTWave MP2110A can simultaneously measure the bit error rate (BER) for up to 4ch at the optical module RX side, as well as simultaneously perform Eye Mask tests and Eye pattern analyses for up to 2ch at the Tx side. In addition, the MP2110A sampling oscilloscope has a sampling speed of up to 250 ksamples/s (six times faster than previous generation instruments) for faster Eye Mask tests and Eye pattern analyses. With support for simultaneous BER measurements and Eye pattern analyses, the BERTWave MP2110A slashes measurement times by up to 65%.

The MP2110A BERT measures bit rates from 24.3 Gbit/s to 28.2 Gbit/s in the standard configuration and from 9.5 Gbit/s to 14.2 Gbit/s by installing Option 093. The built-in sampling oscilloscope supports bandwidths of 40 GHz (electrical I/F), 35 GHz (SMF, optical I/F), and 25 GHz (MMF, optical I/F). In addition, the sampling oscilloscope has a built-in 100-Gbit/s band Bessel filter as standard for measuring optical signals. This excellent performance helps secure higher optical module manufacturing yields.
Moreover, the simplified settings and easy user interface make the MP2110A easy to operate; backwards compatibility with MP2100B remote commands assures trouble-free instrument upgrades.
Additionally, the stable operation resulting from the built-in PC guarantees performance irrespective of the operation environment.
With multi-channel BERT, sampling oscilloscope, high-speed Eye pattern analyses, and Mask Margin measurements, the BERTWave MP2110A improves optical module production efficiency to slash manufacturing costs.

Hate Crimes Hotline Headline Is Wrong

In June 2017, Minneapolis opened a new hotline for reporting hate crimes.
Why does that matter in 2018? Because on Nov. 27, a website known for spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories posted a story with the headline: “Minneapolis Installs Sharia Hotline to Report Americans Who Criticize Islam.”
It’s typical for purveyors of misinformation to take old news, like the announcement of this hotline, and twist it to create an incendiary, clickbait headline that is based on a kernel of truth. The site that posted this story, News Punch, used to be called YourNewsWire, which we’ve written about several times before.
Their method works, too. The News Punch story has been shared on social media pages with a combined following of 2.6 million, while a copy of the story that was posted on another website, The Liberty Eagle, has been shared on social media pages with a combined following of 2.2 million, according to data from CrowdTangle.
But the headline isn’t true. Minneapolis didn’t create a “Sharia hotline to report Americans who criticize Islam.”
Rather, the city started a hotline for reporting hate crimes, which it defined as “any crime against a person or property motivated by prejudice against someone’s race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender or gender identity. This includes prejudice-motivated property damage (including graffiti), stalking and assault.”
The story that follows the false headline does include some accurate information, although it is mixed with misinformation, and is lifted largely from a right-wing website called WND that wrote about the hotline shortly after it was announced in 2017. WND describes itself as “a fiercely independent news site committed to hard-hitting investigative reporting of government waste,” but it was one of the sites to advance the thoroughly debunked “birther” conspiracy theory that former President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.
One example of accurate information mixing with misinformation shows up in both the WND story and the News Punch story. They each cite a real statement from Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights Director Velma Korbel, who said after the 2016 election: “Since the general election, many of us have experienced, witnessed firsthand or heard of actions of: racism, xenophobia, sexism and bigotry directed at people here and in cities across the United States. In no uncertain terms, hate-motivated speech and actions have no place in Minneapolis nor will they be tolerated. Activities such as these are against the law. No one is above the law.”
But both stories introduce the quote by claiming that the hotline would “target” supporters of President Donald Trump. That’s not true.
Korbel’s statement says that there had been an increase in “hate-motivated speech and actions” since Trump was elected. Reported incidents of hate crimes rose by 17 percent nationally in 2017, according to the FBI’s annual hate crime statistics report released on Nov. 13. In Minnesota, there was a 23 percent increase in 2017, compared to the year before.
The News Punch story also wrongly says Minneapolis is “run by Democrat Mayor Besty [sic] Hodges.” Betsy Hodges was the mayor when WND posted its story, but Jacob Frey is the current mayor. He took office in January.
After publishing the story, News Punch changed its headline to say: “Minneapolis Installs ‘Sharia’ Hotline to Report ‘Hate Speech’ About Islam.” It’s still not true that it’s a “‘Sharia’ hotline,” and it isn’t true that the hotline is solely for reporting “‘hate speech’ about Islam.” Instead, it is for reporting hate crimes of any kind.
As of this writing, the Liberty Eagle still had the original headline on its website.
Editor’s note: FactCheck.org is one of several organizations working with Facebook to debunk misinformation shared on the social media network.

Sports Night

“This year’s theme is the decade when their moms were pretty.”
Sports Night practices in the lobby. I watch them from the hall. They practice next to trophies from real sports. They practice, and detention lets out, and they are still practicing. Sports Night has no sports, only dance moves that require a thousand after-schools of practice. It’s a lot of practice for one night, a lot of crying. Someone’s always getting paper towels for them to cry in. I never see them be done practicing. I have to go back down the hall. I’m on Newspaper. We get out later than detention, Sports Night, Abstinence, and every real sport.
Abstinence inflates balloons for when they throw the worst party of the year. Newspaper reports on it.
“Proud virgins,” we caption them.
We are ashamed virgins. We own condoms for no reason. We get As on our Sex Ed quizzes, the ones Abstinence is petitioning to get rid of. I pen an op-ed saying the school should keep the quizzes. While we’re taking them, I watch girls who do Sports Night remember blow jobs they gave down by the quarry, if this town even has a quarry. I don’t know where the blow jobs are. They could be anywhere.
I may not be an expert in local geography, but I do know local history. Sports Night was invented in 1948, when girls weren’t allowed to play sports. Sepia-toned girls ran relay races and dodged balls in skirts past the knee. We’d beaten the Nazis. The town needed its girls to prove they could pass a baton fast enough to birth an empire. When the daughters of those girls started competing in real sports, Sports Night became more of a pageant, but kept the name that had given the town so much joy.
Sports Night has dances. It has skits. Last year’s theme was Underwater Enchantment. The whole town came to see lip-synched ballads about mermaids who resented their fathers. Spandexed, bejeweled sophomores showed off months of choreography, flicked their hair around shell bras, lowered themselves into splits between legs coated with glitter. Every character was sexy. It wasn’t just the mermaid. They had sexy lobsters, sexy squid. They keep one character not sexy to cover up the few fat girls who don’t know they’re not supposed to audition for Sports Night.
I know I’m not supposed to audition. I don’t know how I know—nobody tells you you can’t—but there are conflicts. Newspaper, for instance, and a club where kids without friends meet with the principal to discuss how to improve the school. Why students of different races sit separately in the cafeteria is one of our concerns, as well as Abstinence being mad that the cafeteria windows get decorated every Christmas for Hanu-Kwanzaa but we leave out the infant Jesus. Sports Night gets a window too. They stand on cafeteria chairs in leggings they don’t mind getting paint on, and reveal their theme the first Monday of every December.
This year’s theme is the decade when their moms were pretty. The costume is easy if the mom kept her clothes, if she was the same size as the girl. My mom was pretty, too, then, but I’m not pretty this decade. I thought about doing a skit about it, a dance. One of the colleges I’m applying to lets you do dances about your mom for credit. It lets you do dances about the girls who did dances in your high school. That’s why I’m watching them. I’m going to need their moves later, when I’m taking Interpretative Dance II with people like me.
*
Somebody set off the smoke alarm and now all the clubs are waiting on the field behind the school—Chess, Newspaper, Suicide Awareness. Sports Night keeps practicing. They lunge, clutch grass. Editors nudge me, as if I made this happen. The editors look worse outside. At Newspaper, they’re in charge, ordering pizza, editing last year’s Band trip article to fit this year’s Band trip needs. Out here, they’re just a group of kids who brought their backpacks in case there was really a fire.
Chess brought their chess sets with them. During a smoke alarm last May, somebody moved a rook and disrupted a championship game. Now they bring the sets outside, balance them like pizzas while they wait on the grass. I’m impressed by Chess, the interracial makeup of its nerds. I like their little timers.
“Should we do an article about Chess?” I ask a Josh with a backpack. This Josh’s backpack has his initials on it—JAG—so he doesn’t get mistaken for any of the other nerds of his race. “They seem ignored.”
“Chess doesn’t want not to be ignored,” he says.
Textbook corners frame his initials from inside the pack. He carries all his textbooks with him at all times, as if he was never assigned a locker. I have the same textbooks—AP Physics, AP American, AP Foreign-Language-Not-Spoken-Since-Ancient-Times.
“We did a double issue for Sports Night,” I say. “We had pictures of all those lobsters. You interviewed Lindsay.”
“She was a captain,” he says.
“Well, she’s a captain again, but I’m not interviewing her,” I say. Sports Night is doing rib isolations. “Fuck it, I’m interviewing Chess.”
“We can’t put pawns on the front page!” he yells after me.
JAG’s the reason I’m not editor in chief this year. Around the time of last year’s Band trip, he and I interviewed for the same job. He wore a tie. I found my evaluation sheet after, and it said, “Leaves the pub shop during production and we don’t know where she goes.” I could have told them if they had asked. I break into the Abstinence office and spray it with contraceptive foam. I practice Sports Night moves in an empty classroom. I watch the sun set out a suicide-proof window and remain firmly inside what’s supposed to be my life.
*
My mom picked me up the night I found out I didn’t get chief. I was crying. I would have to be on Newspaper another year, taking orders from someone my own age with a giant backpack.
“Did you put the paper to bed?” she asked. She liked to picture me tucking the newspaper in.
“They can burn in hell,” I said.
“Just being on the masthead of a respected weekly is enough,” she said. “You can still put Argus on your applications without the headache of being in charge.”
“I would have taken the paper in a new direction,” I said.
“Maybe people like the old direction,” she said. “Why don’t you drive home?”
Her offer let me know she was sorry. My driving skills were not getting me into college. I had crept up many curbs practicing my K turns, had gone down one-way streets in a new direction. My parents took turns not taking me out.
Now I drive fine. Not everyone on Newspaper can say the same. Some of their moms still pick them up on Production Night, though they hold the title of chief.
*
“Lindsay,” I ask Lindsay, with Newspaper’s tape recorder, “how are you deciding team costumes this year in the absence of clear characters like enchanted fish and turtles?”
“We have characters,” she says. “From that decade.”
“You mean famous people? Like Valerie Solanas?”
“We’re not doing her,” says Lindsay. “Mrs. Spumondi says it has to be inclusive for everyone. The whole town comes.”
“Yes, the whole town came last year. Male attendance was especially high. How did you feel about your friends’ fathers and the guy from the post office seeing you in those sexy lobster costumes?” This is my hardball.
“We’re proud of our bodies,” she says.
I hadn’t thought of that, but Lindsay is well versed in defending Sports Night from a short-lived club that formed in opposition to Sports Night. Nobody remembers them now. Abstinence came and stole their thunder by being opposed to sex overall.
“Okay, Lindsay. Thank you for your time.”
“Thanks for watching us practice.” She smiles at me like I’m one of the male teachers who also watches them practice.
“I need to watch for the article.”
The truth is that I’m not sure I would have passed Driver’s Ed last year if Mr. Hinkle and I hadn’t spent so much time together watching Sports Night practice in the lobby.
“No DUI fatalities this weekend,” I’d say, disappointed. You needed to hand in thirty fatalities from local newspapers in order to pass the class.
“How do they kick so high?” he’d wonder.
“Maybe I’m not looking in the right papers.”
“Someone will drink and drive soon,” promised Hinkle. “Birds gotta swim. Are you thinking of trying out for this?”
I kicked to show him that my heel hardly cleared the floor, forcing the reluctant, throat-driven laugh of a man who must occasionally use an emergency brake. Mrs. Spumondi told us we were free to leave if we didn’t respect the practice. Mrs. Spumondi’s not a teacher or anybody’s mother. She’s old. She just runs Sports Night. She may have invented Sports Night.
She at least kept it going, long after we had girls dribbling balls, swinging bats, and kicking something other than the air. Now Mrs. Spumondi delegates. She selects the teacher-judges, assigns formerly hot moms to a committee that decides if the basketball hoop is a decent place to hang balloons.
Newspaper wants me to find out what else the mom committee does, but I tell the editors I’m busy with suicide now. I’m quitting Newspaper. They don’t know yet, but my article on Suicide Awareness will be my last—in effect, my suicide note. I’ve realized I don’t like reporting on the school.
The school shouldn’t blame itself. It’s just a school, the kind that bans glue sticks and hats. I’m tired of having opinions about the bans. I never sniffed a glue stick. I never wore a hat. I tried to sniff a glue stick once and nothing happened. Maybe you need to eat them.
Also, the acceptance letters from colleges should be here any day now, the decal for my mother’s car. So she doesn’t get mistaken for the other moms of her race.
*
This year Hinkle acts like he doesn’t know me anymore. Kids come out of detention, hug him, go back in detention. He’s kind of their mascot. It has to do with the fact that the kids who get detention are also the best drivers. I’ve ridden in the backs of the Ed cars when they’re at the helm, and the ride is smooth. Hinkle never uses the brake with them, never says, “Pull over immediately, or I will have no choice but to use the emergency brake.” They hand in fifteen fatalities, and he’s fine with it. He lets them smoke in the cars.
Sports Night girls take smoke breaks. They crouch in their leggings on the concrete steps, stretch their hamstrings, gossip, cry.
I go out there and find Lindsay in tears. “What’s the problem?”
“People are abusing their power.” She lights a cigarette with one of her old bat mitzvah matches.
“I thought you were a captain,” I say.
“Who are you again?”
“I interviewed you for The Argus.”
“That Josh guy interviewed me, too,” she says, coughs.
“When?”
“He said he needed to ask me some stuff you’d forgotten.”
“He always does this. He undermines my relationships with my sources. I’m quitting.”
“I’m quitting, too.”
We sit on the steps and quit for a while. Lindsay’s matches say, i shopped till i dropped at lindsay’s bat! Her bat mitzvah theme was shopping. Guests were assigned to sit at tables labeled Bloomingdale’s, the mall, the Gap. Everyone got a little credit card with their name on it. I wasn’t invited, but I remember teachers confiscating the Lindsay cards at school, in case they paid for things in a junior high black market.
“I hate Sports Night,” she says. “At this point, I actually hate it.”
“We could switch places,” I say. I picture myself ablaze with blush in the gym on Sports Night, cat-crawling across the volleyball court, telling a reporter I’m just proud of my body.
“So I would have to be on the school newspaper? Nobody reads that.”
“That’s not why we do it. We do it for college.”
“That’s not why you do it,” she says. Before I can find out why I do it, detention comes out of the building and turns the steps into a skateboard ramp, a dangerous, bumpy thing.
*
My mom won’t let me quit. She says we’re not a family of quitters. She shows me her yearbook to prove she was on committees. A committee to plant flowers, a committee to end the war.
“Didn’t you basically want the U.S. to quit the war?” I say. “Quitting is powerful.”
“The Argus is not a war,” she says.
“They both exploit the young,” I say.
“You sound like Alan,” she says. My father works late and my mom likes to turn me into him when he’s not home. When he is home, my parents talk about things I’m not interested in, like homeowners’ insurance, or how much it will cost to fix the scratch I put on the car. They have no extracurriculars anymore. It’s hard for them to see what they could give to this town.
*
When Sports Night arrives, it’s Lindsay I follow. I follow her through several songs gay men used to dance to before the virus, and a skit about the yo-yo. I take notes for Newspaper. They’re not just doing dances from that time. They’re doing dances from now: pops and locks, the Dougie, the Butterfly. They lip-synch their songs. They lip-synch their skits. Spumondi takes notes on a clipboard. It’s unclear what decade we’re in.
Balloons hang all around. Boys pop them with pencils, get threatened with detention.
“But it’s Saturday,” a popper argues. “You can’t get detention on Saturday.”
He’s right. We’re in the school, but we’re not in school. The bans don’t apply Saturday. Kids wear hats. Teachers wear jeans. Kids run around saying, “Mr. Hinkle’s wearing jeans.” JAG doesn’t have his backpack on and looks like a dismembered turtle. He looks good.
“Make sure to write down the order of the dances,” he says.
“You’re micromanaging me, Josh.”
JAG’s notebooks all say Joshua Aaron Geller in block letters on the front.
“In your suicide article,” he says, “you left out the name of the girl who committed suicide.”
“I thought we had to protect her privacy. You know, she did Sports Night last year? But they made her be a swordfish.”
“Fact-check that,” says Josh.
A group of boys starts throwing pencils at us, or maybe we’re just in the way of what they’re aiming at. Josh picks up a pencil gently, like it’s a gift.
“I wonder who’s going to be traumatized this year,” he says. I think about Lindsay on the steps, but Lindsay’s not crying now. She’s smiling through her eye shadow, inexplicably dressed as a French maid, crawling across the floor near a pile of balloons. We’re both traitors to quitting. I got my college acceptance letters last week, but I’m still here, reporting from a laminated bleacher on a Saturday. The guy from the post office is here, too. He comes every year.
Lindsay straddles her feather duster. I still can’t figure out how this costume fits into the theme. Maybe there’s a sitcom about a maid from that decade? Or maybe she’s the housewife on the show where the witchy wife controls her husband with her appliances? She twitches her nose at a girl dressed as an ad executive. Boys from the school start chanting, “Ride that broom! Ride that broom!” and soon men from the town join in.
“This theme is disturbing,” says Josh.
“She’s just confident in her sexuality,” I say.
He eyes me like he can’t believe I made the honor roll.
“No, really,” I say. “What are we doing that’s so much more important than what she’s doing?”
“I don’t know,” he says. “Preparing for our futures?”
“Our bright futures in journalism?” I say. I fight with boys instead of dancing for them. “Are we going to be Woodward and Bernstein? You said in Debate practice that you wanted to be a prosecutor.”
This isn’t fair. We lie in applications. We lie in interviews. We lie everywhere but on top of each other. The town’s men are screaming around Josh, a boy who became a man by memorizing United States currency fluctuations in the decades before girls were allowed to play sports. Josh sits up straighter, unable to look at Lindsay on the floor now, like if he studies her any longer he will memorize her.
“It’s all good practice,” he says. “You know that.”
But they practice, too. It’s paid off. The whole thing looks like a never-ending halftime show, a sluttier version of a tumultuous time. The next dance number is even sexier than Lindsay’s, but the team burns a bra during their skit and gets disqualified for creating a fire hazard. Now girls I haven’t interviewed are crying. Their captain tells Spumondi to go fuck herself. Parents around me take sides, with some pledging allegiance to their daughters’ teams, and some saying Sports Night has gotten out of control.
The principal runs down the bleacher steps and announces that Sports Night is canceled. Every girl on the floor starts crying. People boo. I’m taking notes. The teachers turn into teachers again and start telling everyone they have to go home.
“See you Monday!” they say, as though we have a choice.
“See you Monday!” says Josh. He takes his cues from those in power.
“Wait, I think we have our headline,” I say. For once, I’m breaking new news. “Sports Nights Celebrates Past, but Future Hangs in the Balance.”
“What future?” he says.
“Its future. The event’s future.”
“Yes!” he says.
We slap five, the kiss of nerds.
“This is going to be a great issue.”

Family Vacation Tips To Help Make Any Trip A Success

PA3506U-1BRSchildren, it would have to be the family vacation. It doesn’t matter if a family is traveling by car, by boat or by train, their vacation is an opportunity for them to learn and experience new things while strengthening their bonds as well. Young kids especially love vacations because nearly ever single thing is new to them. Parents are usually more than satisfied on a good family vacation because they get to see and experience the surroundings of where they’ve chosen to go and they also get to see the excitement in their childrens eyes From plane delays to being ill prepared for what will arise while on the road, there are a number of things that negatively affect, and possibly even ruin a family vacation. Here are some family vacation tips that anyone can use to improve their chances of having the best vacation ever.

Check The Weather

A quick check of the weather at your destination of choice is a great way to see if you need to PA3591U-1BRS change out any of the clothing that you have already packed. Unexpected poor weather conditions can be one of the simplest things to put a damper on a vacation, but especially so if it means that because of the lack of proper attire that certain events or activities cannot be participated in. This can cause you to pack along more than just different clothing though as umbrellas, tire chains, suntan lotion, and other items can also be useful in specific kinds of weather.

Confirm, Confirm, Confirm

One of the best ways to ensure that a vacation goes off without a hitch is to reserve everything possible ahead of time. But making reservations is not enough, because reservations are made by humans and humans can make mistakes. One of the most important things that anyone can do to Toshiba Laptop Battery protect the plans they have made though is to confirm the reservations at some point after they have been made. Rental cars, hotel rooms, airline tickets and anything else that can be reserved should also be confirmed at a later date.

Don’t Forget A Map

It doesn’t matter if you are traveling by car or by plane, packing along a map of the area that is being traveled either to or through can be very helpful to almost every traveler. Even in today’s age of GPS navigation systems, sometimes there is no substitute for a good old fashioned paper map. Maps are convenient to pull out of a handbag or pocket while walking through an area or studying over during a roadside lunch.

Strategic Carry-On Packing

The common motivation people have when packing a carry-on bag is to pack things that make the traveling part of their trip Portege 4000 easier and more comfortable like snacks, books and other convenience items. Some of the most important things to pack in carry-on luggage though are items that you cannot do without if your main luggage were to be lost or delayed. This can be deoderant, travel documents, a digital music player, personal identification or medications. Lost or delayed luggage can cause an untold number of inconveniences, packing carry-on luggage strategically to plan for any loss or delay is an extremely smart thing to do.

You Can Never Have Enough Battery Power

Whether it is a rechargeable battery pack for a video camera or laptop computer or simple alkaline batteries for other tech gadgets, travelers should remember that it is often a lot easier to find extra battery supplies before you leave for a vacation than it is at the destination being traveled to. It is also a major convenience to have extra Laptop battery power so that no video taping opportunity is missed because the battery pack needs to be recharged. How sad would it be if the best memory of your vacation is not captured on either video or with a digital camera because you have run out of batteries.

Take Care Your Personal Finances Ahead Of Time

The last thing you want to do while on vacation is worry about personal finances. There are a number of steps you can take to reassure yourself regarding these matters and avoid some of the most stress that you can place on yourself. Organize what credit and debit cards are going to go along on the vacation and be used for what. It is also a good idea to get an extra card or two for other family members in case they find themselves separated from the group and are in need of an emergency source of funds. Traveler’s checks should also be purchased ahead of time, this makes it so you don’t have to find them while you are actually traveling yourself. If you are vacationing in a foreign country, it might also make sense to exchange a small amount of currency in your home country before you leave so that you will have some pocket money Satellite A10 available as soon as you set foot in the country you are traveling to.

Edit What You Pack

For the most part, many travelers end up bringing along far more things than they need on a vacation. This is true for clothing in that we all usually make clothing purchases while vacationing too that we don’t account for when packing. This is true for entertainment options in that usually when you arrive at your destination you are more interested in checking out the area than you are in reading the five book series you packed along. This is also true for snack food as there are plenty of places to affordably buy food in most Satellite A100 vacation destinations and that way you don’t have to carry it with you every where. Editing how much of any item you pack along is a great skill or ability to acquire. Lightening your luggage load is a great way to make the traveling process a little easier.

Take Advantage Of Shipping

Whether you are packing more things from home than you want to deal with while traveling, or if you are purchasing more things at your destination than you though you would, at some point you may be dealing with more luggage or packages than you want to haul or manage. One great way to get around this is to utilize shipping companies. Packing some extra clothing that isn’t needed during the travel process along with other items in a box and shipping it to yourself in care of the hotel you will be staying at is a great way to get the items you think you need to your Satellite A70 destination without you having to personally haul it there. This is also a great way to manage the amount of luggage you have when returning from your destination. You could ship home your dirty laundry or all your purchases you made while traveling so that it would be there waiting when you got there. Having less baggage to keep track of is a great way to eliminate stress during travel as well.

While a family vacation is usually one of the most looked-forward to events every year for almost every family, there are also a number of tips and tricks that can make it go more smoothly and better overall. Anything that can be done to make traveling easier and doesn’t make life harder on a family should be done. Most things that benefit a family while traveling are derived from common sense. In fact, there are many people who already follow these and other family friendly vacation tips. There are few things as important to a family, especially to the children, as the family vacation and there are a number of things that can easily be done to both protect fhe members of a family while traveling and also to ensure that everyone has an absolutely Satellite A75 wonderful time.

Lighter than nickel-hydrogen batteries 1 / 2 Lithium-ion rechargeable PA3383U-1BRS the advantages of easy to say that is the weight, volume of only nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries dell battery , Latitude D620 battery , Latitude D820 battery can achieve about half of the same performance. Battery performance in general to unit weight of energy and power to express, lithium-ion rechargeable battery unit weight of the energy density (the density in particular related to the EV travel distance) and power density (related to the HEV of the ease of charging and discharging) are nickel Hydrogen 2 times.

Sanyo Electric said that the development of batteries for the Audi, and its power density and energy density of nickel-metal hydride has reached 2.3 times. Same, AESC's batteries have reached about 2 times, from the point of view of volume, it is estimated to reach about 2.3 times.

R & D in the current HEV, EV, PHEV three electric vehicles, the recognized are the closest practical level of HEV. System has been used in nickel-hydrogen recedent to Prius as an example the use of the PA3384U-1BRS capacity is only about 1.3kWh.

On the other hand, EV and PHEV prototype car has also finally debut. EV at the field, the real production car will be iMiEV and Plugin Stella Concept of production constitutes the performance target. At this point even if the capacity are light vehicles of iMiEV, also required Prius 12.3 times 16kWh.

Mitsubishi iMiEV At bottom, under a number of configurations. Capacity of 16kWh, voltage of 3.7V, with a capacity of 88 units 50Ah battery.

EV Energy all drivers want to rely on batteries, and therefore more stringent requirements of the PA3285U-1BRS . Compared with the HEV battery status is usually (SOC) of 50% as the center, the scope of work of the at its upper and lower 10%, EV's use of greatly expanding the scope of the need.

However, CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions from the perspective of consumers, EV more advantages than the HEV. Click on the basis of projections Sanyo , HEV mode at 10.15 the CO2 emissions 123g/km, while the EV for 49g/km, the former can be reduced to 1 / 2 below.

PHEV can be equipped with more than HEV PA3191U-1BRS , to extend the driving distance between the requirements for the HEV batteries with batteries and battery between EV. Nissan EV from the development experience, EV driving power required by the vehicle weight of 1.7t at level 150 ~ 250Wh/km. If you are 1.3kWh the Prius, use about 20% of the SOC, the farthest we can only travel less than 2km.

And the PHEV Prius prototype vehicles through the nickel-metal hydride rechargeable IBM battery and in parallel double the size of obtained 2.6kWh capacity, will be extending the use of the SOC to 20 ~ 80%, so that battery-powered driving distance reach 13km. If its replaced by lithium-ion rechargeable batteries IBM ThinkPad T43 , IBM ThinkPad T41 , IBM ThinkPad T40P , Ni-MH rechargeable only half the weight, you can achieve the same performance PHEV.

HEV and EV require different characteristics of The characteristics of the in HEV, EV, PHEV three PA3166U-1BRS on what are the differences? Data to Toshiba as an example, the company developed for HEV batteries, the power density reached 3800W/kg, belong to high-power attention to type. Even though at supporting and accelerating the renewable electricity requirements with respect to accessibility of HEV high current flow through a short period of time, but not because of the battery-powered Long time traveling, so belong to a lower energy density level.

Toshiba's performance and strive to achieve. HEV battery connection at a power density of the development of 3800W/kg products. At PHEV batteries Toshiba battery are being developed with a capacity of 10Ah and 20Ah products. The EV Acer battery objectives are to achieve energy density 150Wh/kg.

The EV is just the opposite. Although 100Wh/kg required more than high energy density, but not so high power density requirements. The PHEV performance target is between the range of HEV and EV. To Toshiba's PHEV as an example, the Toshiba Laptop Battery company's goal is to achieve power density 1300W/kg, the energy density of 120Wh/kg.

Widespread use of portable equipment

Laptop batteryequipment, and promoted the rechargeable laptop battery market and the battery industry. Portable equipment to increase run-time, mobile phone call requests for extension of time, which requires to increase the energy density of chemical batteries. Be able to meet these technical requirements are lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries. Sony's first production in 1990, a rechargeable lithium-ion , lithium-ion sony battery has been used in notebook computers and mobile phones, the future may also be used in digital telephone. Lithium polymer batteries are also a new generation of batteries, large quantities in 1999 to enter the market. In addition to lithium polymer batteries are solid polymer electrolyte instead of liquid electrolyte, the other with the lithium-ion is basically the same. Polymer electrolyte material is formed by the PA3331U-1BRS melting of the general body film, the main body in the dissolved polymer such as polyethylene oxide as a solvent for non-mobile. The benefits of lithium polymer batteries are made of any shape and can be relatively light, this is because it does not contain heavy metals and do not have to maintain electrolyte leakage of the plastic case. They have better performance, the ideal state lithium polymer capacity of thousands of mA / h, and more security. Solid-state electrolyte such as a sealed gel, in charge of natural process will not easily disintegrated. Lithium polymer batteries and lithium-ion dell battery technology can replace the battery NiGd. But the price is too high, the market has not fully accepted, especially lithium polymer technology. Darnell Group analysts think Brush: polymer batteries will not be expensive than the lithium-ion , the current production is indeed a lot of expensive, which promoted the lithium-ion battery technology. Previously for the lithium-ion laptop batteries are the cost of 41.42 U.S. dollars, the polymer used in laptop batteries are the cost of 60.80 U.S. dollars. Anyone who does not believe that lithium-ion batteries are cheaper than the polymer one of the advantages of batteries. Some PA3098U-1BRS manufacturers are turning to the lithium polymer battery technology, Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. (TAEC) has invested heavily in this area. Lithium polymer lithium-ion are shifted because of the Japanese market needs and lithium-ion has become very cheap. Price change and increase productivity and earnings are not necessarily the same. TAEC think, lithium polymer batteries are tight, and it is the possession of the goal 3 ~ 6mm thick battery market. Will enhance production capacity, from the current 1.5 million to improve in 2001 to 1,000,000 2. And as new technologies are developed, prices will fall. Some people in the trade that in 5 years, lithium-ion batteries and lithium polymer batteries will be a small price gap. Face the future application of the market, many people naturally from small portable devices and mobile phones turned to other areas of application of the PA3084U-1BRS . The largest market is the automotive application.

At this stage, the Apple battery industry who are optimistic about the enormous profits of the automobile market, the implementation of stringent environmental protection measures and feasible energy requirements and the electronic hybrid vehicles are not development, lithium polymer have a wide application prospect. A referred to as the "T" and with 14-inch screen and remote control of the processor to connect to another belt and wrist at the computer, the mobile hospital system and comply with the Wireless Application Protocol phone can be on the Internet (figure and there is sound) All these applications are required to charge and store energy, and the smallest space. Prediction Polymer is expected to this year's shipment volume reached 19 million, 1.4 million last year. Conservative freight is expected to 3.25 million per month in the first quarter of 2001 shipment volume of production capacity is 2 times. Analysts think: to other products based on lithium polymer in the battery of the total share of income will increase, for instance, Brush said: PA3399U-1BRS because sales fell, lithium polymer batteries to 2003 or 2004 market share NiCd batteries will be over. Rechargeable IBM battery market from last year's approximately 4.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2004 rose to 5.8 billion U.S. dollars, the total annual revenue growth rate of 5.5%. According to Kline & Company in "the world's advanced battery technology opportunities from 1997 to 2007" report, its conclusions more specific, and is projected to 2007, the annual market demand for lithium polymer batteries for at least one billion U.S. dollars. 50% of these demands from the United States and Western Europe. No matter how the actual production, the application in the mobile phone lithium polymer batteries IBM ThinkPad T40 ,IBM ThinkPad X60 ,IBM ThinkPad R60 ,IBM ThinkPad R40 are the biggest growth. Light and easy to use PA3395U-1BRS than its more popular and more competitive, with the development and application of new technologies, the price will eventually come down. Product Development Matsushita Battery Industrial Company in May 2001 at the beginning of mass production of large-capacity lithium polymer battery, a capacity of 1650mA / h, the negative terminal of the are manufactured using new materials. Toshiba's OEM battery group also issued a personal digital assistant for the 2.5mm-thick series of lithium polymer batteries, the company said: The use of the structure of products using a new cathode material and the structure and capacity of the existing capacity of 1.7 ~ 3.3 times (now the largest capacity of 1000mA / h), mass-produced products, in May 2001 before the 500,000 per month to the end of next year one million per month 1. TAEC is to provide a new design over the existing design of the advanced lithium polymer, in particular, are suitable for operating temperature range. Electrochem capacity has developed at 35 ~ 6500mA / h, thickness 0.65 ~ 6.3mm at a variety of PA3250U-1BRS capacity. PolySter company plans to launch at this time of 1200mA / h battery, specifications for the 46? 50? 6mm, used in BP and personal digital devices, the capacity of 1000mA / h battery for mobile phone; 850mA / h battery for the Web -access, 310Ma / h batteries for wrist instruments; 160mA / h (30? 29? 3.2mm) for earphone. Ultralife Batteries Inc. has recently announced the completion of a production line, the production of thick 0.5mm, thickness 4.4mm after packaging capacity of 700mA / h, the weight of about 20g of the battery. Other lithium-polymer battery technology is in various stages of development or near the production stage, such as Lithium Technologies, Inc., aim for the automotive market are the 9A / h, the specifications for the 4? 8? 0.25 inches of the battery. Commercial activity Valeme technology company in accordance with the protocol obtained from Telcordia Technologies, Inc. common stock PA3356U-1BRS Valeme of 3 million newly issued shares at the 12 month protocol implementation, and the United States, including 42 patents, 15 the existing business license, and PLON (TM) trademark. Bellcore patents belong to Valeme, so that the United States Valeme of more than 260 patents have been published and is ready to issue these patents cover all the advanced technology Valeme lithium polymer rechargeable technology, Valeme claimed that it has a global lithium-ion and lithium polymer the operation of complex technical qualifications. At the same time Toshiba PA3356U-3BRS battery , Toshiba PA3357U-1BAL battery , TDK Corporation, Hopkms, MH announced: TDK Corporation and the United Valeme by TDK Corporation and the power resources Valeme technology companies to form a joint venture with Northrop-Grumman Corporation signed a contract to develop lithium polymer batteries for use in the United States Navy Seal advanced transmission system. This development project by the Northrop-Grumman corporate governance, applied in the United States Office of the deep-diving program, development projects will be lithium-ion polymer test the feasibility and performance. Power resources TDK president Mark Grese consider: lithium-ion Acer battery polymer of unique performance and capacity to fit a variety of tasks required by the U.S. Navy, should be in the use of a very long period cycle and life cycle. Nokia says 46 million batteries may overheat

  First post by: www.itsbattery.com

Nokia Corp. is offering to replace 46 million PCGA-BP71 made by another company for use in its mobile phones because of a risk of overheating, Nokia said on Tuesday.

The faulty batteries were manufactured by Japan's Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. and sold in a wide range of Nokia phones, from its low-end 1100 family of products to its pricier N91 and E60 devices.

The overheating can cause the sony laptop battery to "pop out" of the phone while it's being recharged, said Nokia spokeswoman Marianne Holmlund. She said there was no risk of fire, although it was unclear what caused the minor incidents reported.

"It may be that the device left a small burn on a shelf while it was recharging, it's hard to VGP-BPL2 say for sure," said John Devlin, research director for mobile technologies with IMS Research in the U.K.

People concerned about the problem can get their battery replaced for free, Nokia said. It set up a Web page that lists the phone models and describes how customers can check if their battery is affected.

The problem exists only with Matsushita sony vgp-bps5 manufactured between December 2005 and November 2006, and the phones would have been sold worldwide during roughly the same period, Holmlund said.

Nokia reported selling 347 million phones in 2006, making 46 million a significant proportion of its annual sales. "It is about 10 percent of all the phones sold, but we are talking about 100 incidents, which is only a tiny proportion," Holmlund said.

Nokia expects Matsushita to bear "certain financial responsibilities" for the replacement VGP-BPS3 program, she said. Peter Weber, a spokesman for Matsushita in Europe, said the financial terms are being negotiated now between the companies.

It's the first time Nokia has had to offer such a replacement program, Holmlund said.

Such problems in phones normally arise because of counterfeit batteries, making this case "a little unusual," Devlin said.

The problem is unlikely to affect other makes of cell phone since the batteries were VGP-BPS5 designed especially for Nokia, Weber of Matsishita said. Cell phone batteries are typically designed and manufactured for a particular phone maker, Holmlund confirmed.

It's only the latest incident involving rechargeable Lithium ion batteries used in portable electronics products. Late last year laptop makers including Sony Corp., Toshiba Corp. and Dell Inc. offered to replace a total of 8 million laptop batteries because of a manufacturing defect in Sony-made batteries that left them vulnerable to short-circuiting and catching fire.

Nokia said it will work with Matsushita and the Sony Laptop Battery "relevant authorities" to investigate the problem.

The information before you buy a laptop

You need to have the ability to connect to the Internet and company networks in a variety of methods and have a laptop capable of undertaking your daily work tasks. Evaluate the tasks you perform and compare them against the laptop features to ensure you get the right laptop.

Lease or Buy a Laptop

When making the decision to buy a laptop for mobile use, it's important to consider the options you have available. You can purchase new, acer travelmate 290 battery, used or refurbished or even lease a laptop. Decide what factors are most important and keep in mind what your budget will allow. If state of the art technology is VGP-BPS8 key, then leasing is your best option. Examine your options before you buy a lapop.

Size and Weight

The next important criteria when you buy a acer aspire 8920g battery is size and weight. The best choices for mobile office workers are thin & light laptops and ultra-portable designs. You'll find these laptops offer the best mobility options and make the most sense when you have to travel with your laptop. Laptops meant to replace desktop systems may be too heavy to carry for long periods of time but can provide features valuable to mobile professionals.

Connectivity

As a mobile office worker having the ability to connect to an office network and the Internet are integral to successfully working in a mobile environment. Laptops with multiple connection options are what will suit mobile workers and leave them with the ability to get connected in VGP-BPS9 practically any situation. Consider the different types of situations where you will need remote acer aspire 8920 battery access and make sure that your laptop will have the networking capabilities included or easily added.

Batteries

Mobile workers need laptops that have long acer aspire 7720 battery lives and even better are laptops that allow you to add an extra battery. You never know if your mobile work will take you to places where electricity is not an option. Traveling by air, rail or bus are prime examples. It's also worth looking at how long it takes to recharge your VGP-BPS10.

Security Features

Mobile office workers must accept that their acer aspire 7520 battery will be a prime target for theft. Know what security measures you can take and what security options are available with the laptop you choose. Purchasing additional warranty coverage and getting 24/7 support are important considerations when looking at laptop manufacturers. It's also important to know if the laptop manufacturer provides local and/or international support.

fuel cell-driven development of yeast

According to the United Kingdom, "New Scientist" magazine reported that Toshiba Laptop Battery scientists have recently said that people of blood glucose for energy in the yeast cells that one day people will be driven into the body of the electronic devices, such as pacemakers. This vivid self-generated power in order to replace the regular replacement of laptop battery of conventional surgery. Since the University of British Columbia, Canada will be a team of scientists at yeast encapsulation in soft capsules, has been developed to such a micro fuel cell micro-organisms, can be applied to the treatment of paralysis of the spine such as electron micro-electrode devices. Engaged in this yeast to develop fuel cell scientists, said spine microelectrodes implanted in the spine necessary and therefore very difficult to replace batteries.

To rely on traditional high-temperature fuel cell catalysts such as platinum to electron spin-off from the fuel, resulting in Laptop batterycurrent. Microbial fuel cell which uses living cells in the low-temperature catalysts - enzymes to generate a current. The simplest approach is that, when the cells began to break down food, on the direct "steal" of the electron generated by cells. This approach is in the "e-intermediary" to help achieve the so-called "e-intermediary" is small enough chemicals through the cell to obtain electron,Sony battery and then can run out from the cells. The new fuel cell component from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the yeast sealed by poly dimethyl siloxane (PDMS) material in the capsule, together constitute the fuel cell. Scientists currently developed fuel cells that are micron-size samples, and an area of 15 square PA2487U microns, 1.4 microns thick. The results of this study published in the latest issue of "Journal of Microelectronic Systems" on.

Methylene blue compound used in dyeing of biological samples,Today, University of British Columbia, Canadian scientists will be used for "e-intermediary." When yeast break down glucose, the methylene blue from the yeast cells where the "theft" of electronics, VGP BPS3 , VGP BPS5 , PCGA BP2NY electronic delivery of this will be followed by the other side of yeast cells, resulting in a weak current. Up at the cathode, from yeast cells combine hydrogen and oxygen ions produced water. To increase the size of the electrode to increase the fuel cell power output, the group using silicon etching techniques to create "mini-poles", which covers an area of about 40 square micron, 8 microns high. Tested, the yeast can produce fuel-cell around 40 nava electricity, compared to quartz watches generally can produce electron micro-watt power class. Therefore, if the use of the energy storage capacitors, toshiba battery and the yeast will be able to drive a number of fuel cell devices. This will be carried out yeast genetically modified so that it will have greater power output capability. However, this goal faces many challenges. For instance, let the healthy growth of yeast cells, toshiba PA3383U-1BRS,toshiba PA3384U-1BRS and its waste cases no damage PA3107U-1BRS was cleaned up, so that excretion of harmful substances to human blood.

Netbook Shipments Jump in First Quarter

  First post by: www.itsbattery.com

An Apple official may have trashed netbooks for cramped keyboards and “junky” hardware, but shipments for the inexpensive Hp Laptop Battery are showing no signs of slowing down.

IDC last week said worldwide netbook shipments went up sevenfold to roughly 4.5 million during the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter last year. Netbooks comprised approximately 8 percent of all PC shipments during the first quarter.

Despite an early backlash due to uncertainty surrounding the device, netbooks have been grabbing more attention since early 2008, said Jay Chou, research analyst at IDC. Netbooks are attractive as secondary devices because of their low prices and small sizes, he said. Low prices helped fuel netbook sales, although Laptop batterypeople in general have reduced spending during the recession.

“People in different areas have different expectations of what [netbooks] are supposed to do. Some of our surveys show students using it as a note-taking device. They don’t want to take a 6-pound [laptop] to campus,” Chou said.

Netbooks also meet the needs of many people for Web surfing and word processing.

“Vendors are waking up to the fact that people respond to so-called ‘good-enough’ computing. They don’t really need all the power of a Core 2 Duo CPU most of the time. Most of the time CPU usage is about 5 percent,” Chou said.

Netbook shipments for the year should double to 22 million in 2009 compared to last year, taking a larger share of PC shipments as the year goes on. Shipments should pick up during the back-to-school season in the third quarter, and possibly jump in the fourth-quarter holiday Hp 398876-001 season.

However, shipments may record slower incremental growth starting in 2010 as netbooks become a mainstay of the PC market, Chou said.

Chou couldn’t provide exact market-share numbers for each vendor for the first quarter of 2009, but he didn’t expect a change in rankings from the fourth quarter. Acer was the top netbook vendor during the fourth quarter with a 32 percent market share, followed by Asustek, with a 26 percent market share. Following Asustek were Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and Samsung.

Acer President and CEO Gianfranco Lanci recently said the company expects to ship between 10 million and 12 million netbooks Hp PB992A during 2009. It shipped just over 5 million netbooks in 2008.

Due to seasonal reasons, shipments fell sequentially from the 6.2 million netbooks shipped in the fourth quarter of 2008. Buying activity is higher in the fourth quarter because of the holiday season. Purchases slowed down after the holiday season ended, affecting netbook shipments during the first quarter of 2009.

Netbook shipments saw sharp growth in Europe and Japan during the first quarter, Chou said. Japan is usually a market where people crave small things, and netbooks fit into that category, Chou said.

Samsung was a relative latecomer to the netbook space but saw plenty of buyers for its NC10 laptop in Western Europe, Chou said. Samsung offered users a better overall netbook experience with a larger screen and a decent-sized keyboard.

Telecommunication companies are playing a big part in Hp PB994A Europe and Japan to drive the netbook phenomenon by bundling it with telecom services. The trend is also reaching the U.S., with AT&T offering a US$99 Acer netbook with a two-year mobile broadband contract.

Netbook adoption will also continue to grow as PC makers add more and more features like bigger screen sizes and better graphics, Chou said. Asus, for example, added a DVD drive to one of its models. Early netbooks have been panned for poor graphics capabilities, but Nvidia has come out with a chip platform that will make it possible to watch full high-definition video on netbooks.

There is also a growing interest in netbooks with screen sizes between 9 and 12 inches, Chou said. Early last year, laptops with a 7-inch screen size dominated shipments, but interest waned as laptops with larger screen sizes shipped, Chou said.

IDC defines netbooks — which it calls mini-notebooks — as laptops with screen sizes between 7 and 12 inches with low-power processorsHp PB991A like Intel’s Atom processors.

Consumer Electronics Help Nudge Economy

The federal government last week reported a 6.1% contraction in the U.S. Sony Laptop Battery economy during this year’s first quarter — a grim headline in the making. But economists and IT industry analysts saw some hopeful signs in the latest numbers, as did Wall Street, where stock prices staged a midday rally.

The U.S. Department of Commerce, in its quarterly report on gross domestic product (GDP), said that consumer spending increased by 2.2% in Q1 on a sequential basis, after falling 4.3% in last year’s fourth quarter. Consumers account for about two-thirds of overall spending in the U.S., so the first-quarter jump was seen as a good omen for the economy as a whole.
“If consumer spending is starting to recover, that means you’ve got signs that the economy is starting to recover,” said Andrew Bartels, an analyst at Forrester Research Inc.

Bartels and other analysts said shrinking business inventories that also were cited in the Commerce PCGA-BP1N Department report may spur increased production to meet the growing consumer demand. Moreover, the federal government’s economic stimulus spending under the $787 billion bill signed by President Barack Obama in February has yet to fully kick in.

The first-quarter decline in inventories “is a classic sign of reaching a bottom, because now the shelves are empty,” said Frank Scavo, president of Computer Economics Inc., a market research firm in Irvine, Calif.
But overall, the first quarter was rougher than expected for the economy, and the drop-off in GDP followed a similarly sharp 6.3% decline during the fourth quarter of last year.
Tech Firms Report Tough Quarter

IT vendors were among the businesses that had a tough time in Q1. For instance, Microsoft Corp. reported a 6% revenue decline year-to-year, while IBM said its revenue fell by 11%. SAP AG Wednesday reported a 33% drop in software sales; its total revenue declined by PCGA-BP2NX only 3%, but that was thanks largely to increases in software support fees that took effect Jan. 1.

The data released by the Commerce Department explains why the revenues of tech vendors were down during the first quarter. The agency’s report shows that spending on software dropped by 8% in Q1 and that purchases of computers and peripherals were off by 25%, Bartels said.
But with the consumer-spending data suggesting that the economic downturn is flattening out or perhaps even coming to an end, Bartels expects businesses to revisit their capital investment plans and decide that they might have overreacted in making spending cuts. And although federal spending was down 4% in the first quarter, the stimulus plan “is going to turn government spending from negative to positive very quickly,” he said.

The Federal Reserve, in a statement issued this afternoon, said it also has seen signs of improvement in the economy, although its comments were guarded. The Fed said that “the pace of contraction appears to be somewhat slower” and that since March, “the economic outlook has improved modestly.” Household spending “has shown signs of stabilizing but remains constrained by ongoing job PCGA-BP2NY losses, lower housing wealth and tight credit,” the Fed said, adding that weak sales prospects have prompted businesses to cut their inventories, investments and staffing levels.

Swine Flu an Issue
One wild card is the possible economic impact of the swine flu outbreak, especially if the World Health Organization determines that it amounts to a pandemic. Such a declaration might increase demand for technologies that support telecommuting, but it would hurt the travel industry and other businesses. Overall, Scavo said, a full-blown pandemic “could lengthen the recession, and that in turn could suppress demand for IT equipment and services.”

There is one economic sector that may be unaffected by the downturn: lobbying. Tech vendors spent $29.5 million in the first quarter lobbying Congress and the White House, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. That amount is on track with last year’s levels, when the PCGA-BP2R industry spent about $118 million on lobbying efforts for the year as a whole.

Keep the Power Flowing

The recent Laptop battery recalls, due to the potential risk of overheating or fire, have inconvenienced millions of mobile professionals. But lithium ion batteries--widely used to power today's laptops--are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.

I recently offered tips on how to safely handle lithium ion batteries to minimize the already minimal risks of overheating or fire. This week I've got advice on keeping your notebook's lithium ion battery in top condition and powering your portable PC as long as possible.

Use It or Lose It

If unused for long periods of time, lithium ion Sony Laptop Battery can very slowly lose their capacity to hold a charge. Fortunately, lithium ion batteries hold their charge better over time than other rechargeables, including nickel cadmium and nickel metal hydride. But you want your spare to be ready when you need it, so if you've got an extra battery for your notebook, use and then recharge it on occasion to keep it ready to go.

Shut Down Completely

When your notebook is running on battery power, there are things you can do to extend its charge. For one thing, when you're finished working, shutting down your computer instead of putting it into Stand By or Hibernate modes preserves battery power. Though Stand By and Hibernate enable you to restart quickly, both modes PCGA-BP2Scontinue to draw power from your battery. (Hibernate uses less juice than Stand By, however.)

Turn Off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Cellular Modems

Always turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular modems when they're not needed. These wireless network technologies can be a significant drain on your laptop battery's charge. Many newer notebooks have buttons to turn wireless connections on and off. You can also go to Start, Connect To, "Show all connections," then select the connection you want to enable or disable.

Remove Discs and Devices

When they're not needed, remove CDs, DVDs, flash media cards, PC Cards, ExpressCards, PCGA-BP2T and connected peripherals. When you have media inserted in a computer drive, such as a disc in the CD/DVD drive, the computer continues to try and communicate with that drive. And everything a computer does--including those communication attempts--is a drain on its battery power.

Tweak Power Settings

Your notebook's display is one of its main battery drains. Thankfully, Windows XP notebooks include a utility for adjusting display and other settings that can affect your battery charge.

But here's a caveat: Don't get too ambitious with your power conservation settings. Your notebook must expend power every time the hard drive and monitor are awakened from their sleep. So for maximum efficiency, make your settings fit your usage patterns. As a general rule of thumb, I recommend that when you're running on battery power you opt to have the hard disk turn off after about 20 minutes and the monitor after about 10 minutes.

Adjust Screen Brightness

You can also save battery power by lowering your laptop PCGA-BP2V screen's brightness. In most cases, this is done using a combination of function keys. For example, on my HP Pavilion dv1000, I hold down the Fn and the F7 keys together to decrease screen brightness and the Fn and F8 keys to increase it. You may be surprised to find that your display is quite comfortable to view at a lower brightness setting than the default.

Get a Long-Life Battery

Many notebook vendors now offer an option for an extended-life battery. Usually, these batteries are heavier, bulkier, and more costly than standard batteries. But they can significantly extend the time your notebook operates away from a wall socket.

Consider a Notebook Battery Booster

Some third-party power products are available that can significantly extend your notebook's PCGA-BP4V life.

Xantrex's XPower Powersource Mobile 100 ($130) is like carrying around a wall socket. Plug the AC adapter of your notebook (or other device) into this power brick, and the Powersource's internal battery will keep the notebook running for about 2 hours, according to my informal tests. The Powersource also lets you charge USB devices. And it could come in extremely handy during a power outage. The downside: At 2.4 lbs., the Powersource weighs nearly as much as some ultraportable notebooks.

Extreme Endurance: Four Notebooks with Extra-Long Battery Life

  First post by: www.itsbattery.com

The average thin-and-light notebook lasts about four hours on a Hp PP2182L charge. That kind of battery life is fine if you’re flying from New York to Orlando or if you’ll be in meetings only half the day. But what if you’re going from New York to San Francisco and you want to use your laptop to check e-mail, and catch the latest episode of House online in the airport, watch a DVD in the air, and maybe even look up some restaurant reviews on your way to the hotel using your broadband card? Or maybe you just want to be able to stay productive at an all-day conference without having to fight over an outlet. That’s where these long-distance runners come in.

When properly equipped, the latest power-sipping notebooks can last a full workday or longer on a single charge. We put several to the test with the LAPTOP Battery Test, which entails continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi, and found four favorites that last more than 8 hours—more than enough endurance to last a cross-country trip. To achieve these marathon times, though, the systems were equipped with slower processors, premium features such as solid state drives, and extended batteries—which significantly increased both their cost and weight. Still, if you’re looking for the ultimate in endurance, these machines are worth the premium.

By adding an extended battery, solid state hard drive, and LED-backlit display, the Hp 345027-001 can last up to 14 hours—welcome longevity for globe-trotting road warriors. You’ll just need to decide if the machine’s weight and price tag are worth it.

Design

The 6930p looks both tough and elegant. It sports a brushed, anodized aluminum lid and a magnesium alloy chassis. Indeed, this 5.2-pound notebook is sturdy, but at 13.0 x 9.6 x 1.2 inches, it’s a bit wide and thick.

When you attach the extended battery—crucial for getting that 14-hour battery life—the notebook weighs 6 pounds, unheard of for a thin-and-light machine. The battery adds so much weight and heft to the backside of the notebook that it can’t balance upright when on a lap.

The matte black, spill-resistant keyboard is offset by a brushed-metal deck and upper panel, both of which match the lid. HP’s DuraKeys feature a fingerprint-resistant UV coating that claims to be six times more scratch-resistant than HP’s previous business notebooks. The only design element we found off-putting were the two holes flanking the touchpad, which is where the metal posts for the lid hook when the system is closed.

The keyboard was easy to type on and made little noise. Above the keyboard are touch-sensitive controls for HP Info Center, which contains ProtectTools Security Manager and Connection Manager, Wi-Fi, Presentation Options, and volume settings. The touch controls responded immediately and didn’t require much Hp 342661-001 pressure. Although the touchpad is well sized and has the right amount of friction, the buttons are a bit narrow and required too much pressure to activate.

Audio/Visual Performance

The 14.1-inch (1280 x 800) matte display looked muted when we watched a DVD, but allowed for good viewing angles. Our display was LED backlit, a critical ingredient for attaining 14 hours of battery life. Users can opt for a non-LED display and shave $50 off the price.

The audio, while not booming, was pleasant and full. A 2-megapixel webcam option is available, but our unit did not come with one. A 2.53-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 CPU and 2GB of RAM notched 3,123 on PCMark Vantage, about 300 points higher than the average thin-and-light. We simultaneously sent and received e-mails, explored Facebook, read a blog, and created a presentation in Zoho Show without a hiccup.

One trade-off in extending the battery life is diluted graphics performance. pavilion dv6000 On 3DMark06, the Intel GMA 4500MHD GPU configuration scored 697, about half the thin-and-light average. However, the notebook can speedily complete everyday business tasks.

Battery Life

With the extended battery ($159), our unit lasted an epic 14 hours and 5 minutes, right on target with HP’s prediction. It’s by far the best endurance we’ve seen in any notebook category.

Wi-Fi

We were unable to get official wireless throughput scores, but the 802.11a/b/g/n wireless radio smoothly streamed a four-minute clip on Vimeo, even with just a bar or two of connectivity. The 6930p is also available with mobile broadband; using Gobi technology, customers can opt for service from Hp dv6000 battery AT&T or Verizon Wireless.

Extras

The EliteBook offers plenty of security features. You get a fingerprint reader, TPM circuitry, and a 3D accelerometer that parks the hard drive whenever it detects sudden movement. The 6930p can be configured to include Intel’s vPro technology, which lets IT managers remotely manage and secure the system easily and faster.

HP’s QuickLook 2 lets you press a button to get your e-mail, calendar, tasks, and contact information before the system boots. HP SpareKey makes forgetting your password less stressful by letting you configure three predetermined questions as an alternate form of authentication. HP Privacy Manager protects against identity theft by using digital signatures and encryption in e-mail and IM. HP File Sanitizer permanently deletes files and personally identifiable information.

The Final Word

If all-day endurance is what you’re looking for, the HP EliteBook 6930p will Pavilion dv8000 satisfy. However, it’s heavier and clumsier, and its performance is less than what you’d get with a $1,399 configuration. This configuration is best suited for those who demand long battery life and don’t mind schlepping a 6-pound laptop

MSI Wind 9-Cell Battery Pictures, We Wait With Open Arms

  First post by: www.itsbattery.com

MSI just keeps breeding that Wind family. Today the Hp dv8000 battery company unveiled it Wind U110 ECO, which sports a similar chassis to the Wind U115 but is slated to get 9 hours of battery life.

Using Intel’s Menlow Atom family of processors (the 1.6GHz Atom Z530), which is optimized for battery savings, and a higher capacity battery, MSI is confident that the ECO will be one of the longest running netbooks on the track.

Other than its predicted battery capabilities the 10-inch LED Backlit U110 ECO has the run of the mill netbook specs including an 1GB of RAM and Windows XP. It will have a US15 chipset which uses Intel’s GMA 500 graphics. Early reports indicated that it would have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics card. Andy Tung of MSI confirmed this was HSTNN-DB20 a misprint on the company’s Website.

Similar to the U100 it has a 4-in-1 card reader, 3 USB, Ethernet, mic and headphone jacks. It also has a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0 and 802.11b/g/n options. According to MSI U.S. they are undecided at the moment if the U100 ECO will hit domestic shores.

A few things set the netbooks of today apart from one another and Hp 395789-001 life is one of them. Most netbooks from the likes of Lenovo, Acer and Dell come standard with 3-cell or 4-cell batteries that only provide 3 hours of battery life max, usually far less than that.

Six-cell batteries, offered only by ASUS, MSI and Acer at this point, have been the perfect solution since they can offer up to six hours of juice. That is until now. According to EeePCNews.de, MSI is working on a 9-cell battery. Pictures sent to the German blog by a battery manufacturer indicate that a 9-cell Wind battery is in the works. Those extra cells could offer up to 9 or 10 hours of run time on the popular netbook. We will be here waiting patiently for a release date Hp 396008-001 and price.
